Kuma Coffee
Kuma Coffee started the way so many great Seattle roasters do: a guy, a garage, and an obsession with finding exceptional coffee. Founder Mark Barany's passion for bright, fruity African roasts traces back to 1995, when his family moved to Kenya during his childhood. Today, under owner and roaster Peter Mark, Kuma remains a tiny four-person operation with an outsized reputation, sourcing direct from origin, paying well above Fair Trade prices, and tasting hundreds of coffees to find that special few worth roasting. One of our very first and longest-standing partners, and still one of the most exciting microlot roasters in the country. In the cup, expect light-roasted, fruit-forward single origins with vibrant, layered flavors that evolve beautifully as they cool. No dark blends, no Sumatras — just exceptionally clean, sweet, expressive coffee. Start Here: Guatemala Hunapu, a Red Bourbon microlot from the volcanic soils of Antigua with fruit punch brightness, dark chocolate depth, and a honeyed finish. We've carried this one for ten years running. Classics are classics for a reason.
