Roaster

Fundamental Coffee Company

Scott McMartin spent twenty years at Starbucks buying coffee — over a billion pounds of it, across 20 producing countries and roughly 2,000 farms. He's seen it all, knows everyone, and in 2014 decided to take everything he learned and apply it to something smaller, more personal, and more artful. Fundamental Coffee is his love letter to the dark roast, a style Scott believes is a vanishing art in an industry increasingly obsessed with light and fruity. Roasting small batches on drum roasters in Seattle, tasting every single one, and sourcing from growers he's known for decades, Scott brings the expertise of a coffee giant to the craft of an independent. As one Bean Box customer put it: "One of the darkest, velvety-rich, smoothest cups I've had." In the cup, expect masterfully crafted dark roasts with depth, balance, and the confidence of someone who has roasted a lot of coffee. Start Here: Colombia Cattleya Excelso, a rare dark-roasted single origin with night-blooming florals, campfire-grilled tropical fruit, rich chocolate, and a bittersweet cinnamon finish. Bold, aromatic, and unlike any dark roast you've tried before. Welcome to the dark side.
